How to Create a Unique Notebook Decoration: EMART Guide
Introduction
Hello! Today, in EMART’s creative corner, we’ll show you how to make an interesting notebook decoration. We will take you step by step through the process and list all the materials needed to create a unique, personalized notebook.
Required Materials
- Notebook
- White acrylic paint
- Black stain
- Modeling clay
- Paint application sponge
- Natural green moss
- Cardboard
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Sharp tool (like a toothpick)
- Antique paste
Step 1: Preparing the Materials
To start, you’ll need an old notebook to decorate in an interesting, unique way. From medium-thick cardboard, cut rectangular pieces of various sizes to mimic wooden planks. Cut the pieces according to the size of the notebook cover to cover both sides.
Step 2: Gluing the Cardboard Pieces
Arrange the cardboard pieces on both sides of the cover, leaving a bit of space between each piece. Once you’re happy with the arrangement, glue the pieces to the notebook cover with hot glue.
Step 3: Painting the Notebook
Now it’s time to paint with white acrylic paint, ideally using a foam sponge to apply a slightly thick and textured layer. Once the cardboard is painted, take a sharp tool and draw lines to mimic wood texture, then allow the paint to dry completely.
Step 4: Adding Black Stain
Continue by applying black stain sparingly to retain the created texture. Once painted, allow the stain to dry fully.
Step 5: Bolts from Air-Drying Modeling Clay
Form small balls from the modeling clay to add extra decoration. On each ball, carve a small cross with a toothpick or sharp tool to make it resemble a bolt. Once dry, glue these bolts to the notebook at the corners of the “planks” with hot glue.
Step 6: Creating a Heart
For an additional element on the front cover, make a cardboard heart using a template or freehand, which will serve as a frame. Treat the heart like the cardboard pieces—apply a white paint layer, carve lines with a sharp tool for wood texture, and add black stain. Glue the finished heart with hot glue.
Step 7: Applying Antique Paste
For an extra touch, apply antique paste to give the decoration an aged look. You may wish to use a bit more antique paste on the bolts and heart for emphasis.
Step 8: Adding Natural Green Moss
Finish the decoration by gluing green moss in the gaps between the cardboard “planks” and filling the inner part of the heart.
Conclusion
This personalized notebook makes an ideal gift with sentimental value.
