How to Create a Decorative Bicycle from Cardboard and Twine
Introduction
Hello! In today’s DIY guide from EM ART, I’ll show you how to make a decorative bicycle from cardboard and twine. This project is perfect for adding a unique touch to your home or office, combining creativity and fun. Follow the steps below to create your own unique bicycle.
Materials Needed
- Thick cardboard
- Twine
- Wooden sticks
- Cardboard cup
- Burlap with lace for decoration
- Various small flower bouquets
- Hot glue
- Pen or pencil
- Compass
- Scissors
Steps to Create the Decorative Bicycle
Creating the Wheels
Measuring and Cutting Circles
- Use a compass to draw three rings on the cardboard: one large and two smaller ones, which will serve as the bicycle wheels.
- The large front wheel should have a diameter of around 5 cm, while the two smaller rear wheels should be about 3 cm.
- Cut out the drawn circles.
Reinforcing the Wheels
- If the cardboard you’re using isn’t thick enough, cut out three rings for each wheel.
- Glue them together with hot glue – this will provide extra strength and stability to the wheels.
Wrapping with Twine
- Start wrapping each wheel with twine, making sure to keep it tight and even.
- To make the process easier, apply a bit of hot glue at the beginning and end of the twine.
Assembling the Wheels
Adding Spokes
- Cut two wooden sticks for each wheel, matching the size of the inner part, and wrap them with twine.
- Attach two crossed sticks to each wheel to create spokes.
Connecting the Wheels to the Frame
- Use thicker sticks wrapped in twine to connect the two smaller rear wheels. Glue them together with hot glue.
- Connect the front wheel with the rear wheels using two sticks about 14 cm long, also wrapped in twine.
- Glue two vertical sticks and one horizontal stick for the front wheel, which will serve as handlebars.
Finishing the Bicycle
Attaching the Cardboard Cup
- Wrap the cardboard cup with twine from top to bottom.
- Cut a piece of burlap with lace and glue it to the cup for an additional decorative effect.
- Attach the cup to the rear of the bicycle with hot glue.
- Connect the flower basket to the handlebars with two more sticks in a "T" shape.
- Add various flowers of your choice in the cup-basket for a final accent.
