Now, a few interesting facts about the origin of chipboard! Chipboard and beer coaster were first introduced around 1880 in Saxony. A few years later, Robert Spud patented a method of making beer coasters. He created them by pouring semi-liquid paper pulp into special molds and drying them overnight. They were 107mm in diameter and 5mm thick.

Shortly thereafter, images began to be printed on the coasters, with each coaster being printed individually after it was cut. This type of technology lasted until the 1920s. In the 1970s, offset printing appeared, with which the entire sheet was first printed and then the various stands were cut.

Application and use

Chipboard finds its application in making various types of decorative elements for album covers and scrapbook notebooks. Plus, you can then be colored or painted on. Due to its high density, it is suitable for tempera, acrylic or even oil paints, felt-tip pens, markers, pencils and others.
