Lapis Lazuli – The Stone of Truth
This resonant crystal has a history of over 6,000 years. Its name comes from the Latin word for stone – “lapis” and the Arabic word for blue – “aula”.
Lapis Lazuli has been highly valued by different cultures for centuries and used to adorn the statues of ancient deities. According to artifacts, the sacred stone was especially significant in ancient Egypt.
Did You Know?
In the 19th century, artists painted the sea and sky with the blue pigment extracted from the stone. You have probably heard of “Starry Night” by Van Gogh; it was painted with the pigment derived from lapis lazuli.
The enchanting blue color of the stone is captured in the headscarf of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Vermeer.
Thanks to its use as a rich pigment, powdered lapis lazuli has also been used in cosmetics, in ancient and modern times alike.
Many scholars believe that the use of the word “sapphire” in the Bible refers to lapis lazuli.
The most popular lapis lazuli variant is blue. Purple varieties are also common.
Application in Daily Life and Alternative Medicine
In Jewelry
Lapis lazuli has a wide range of uses in making earrings, hair ornaments, brooches, and pendants. The reason is that these items are not subjected to constant friction, which could cause abrasion of the stone. The jewelry pieces should be stored in separate boxes to avoid rubbing and scratching from other stones or objects.
Healing Properties
It is believed that the blue stone has the ability to heal the throat, vocal cords, larynx, and thyroid gland. It can also relieve insomnia and lower blood pressure.
If you want a bruise to heal faster, warm a piece of the stone in sunlight and place it on the bruised area. The same applies to skin problems or insect bites.
Lapis lazuli can also ease menstrual cramps.
The blue crystal is believed to symbolize truth and encourage it. It allows you to deal with suppressed emotions and facilitate relief and acceptance. It promotes dignity, faith and justice.
The dark blue hues of lapis lazuli are used to boost self-respect and compassion. They guide us towards generosity and care for others.
Meditation
This stone can be a powerful tool for meditation. It encourages visualization and spiritual energy. Meditation can help us return to images of past lives and ancient civilizations. Some say the stone can even allow for the recovery of memories from past incarnations, which can serve as a guiding light.
Zodiac Signs and Lapis Lazuli
The lapis lazuli protects the so-called Third Eye, which is responsible for insight and awareness. With its ability to balance the important and the insignificant around us, lapis lazuli commands the energy flow in the body. Its blue crystal energy will balance your throat chakra.
Although it is not the traditional birthstone for a specific zodiac sign, lapis lazuli is considered a spiritual guide for those born between February 19 and March 19.
Some associate it with the planets Neptune and Venus. It has a magnetic effect on the sign of Sagittarius.
